Distance Learning
The Information Security Group also offers a distance (online) learning version of the MSc in Information Security. This programme operates through the University of London International Academy and is ideal for those who are unable to attend the campus version. It is particularly suitable for students in full- or part-time employment as there are no attendance requirements and the degree can be spread over a number of years according to the amount of time available for study. As with the campus course, staff on the distance learning programme are all members of the ISG or information security professionals.
Although the personal interaction with staff and other students afforded by a campus course is preferable, there are virtual equivalents in online seminars, the student cafe and study groups.
Many of our current students have joined the programme with non-standard entry qualifications. Several years of relevant industrial experience, possibly augmented with some professional certification, is equally acceptable instead of the more standard first or second class first degree in a relevant subject. If you are unsure of having sufficient background to succeed, you can always take some of the modules as short courses first, and you will then be automatically considered and normally accepted onto the MSc programme upon successful completion of them.
The distance learning version of the MSc mirrors the technical stream of the campus course. Most of the modules available on the campus course are also available by distance learning. They have been engineered to be as close as possible in terms of content and standard. The degree you obtain by distance learning is to all intents and purposes academically identical to that of the campus MSc.
Sample "taster" material, a list of modules, syllabuses, brochures, application forms and other information about this programme can be found on the home page for the degree at the University of London International Programmes. Please also feel free to click here for a brief introduction to the Distance Learning programme.
Applications should be received by 30th June. The course normally starts at the beginning of October and runs through to the end of April. Examinations take place during May at a centre in your own country and results become available in mid-July.
